Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: The Guardian Wars: The Legend of Mewtwo
The Legend of Mewtwo is the third and final chapter in the story of Mewtwo. Like Mewtwo Returns, it is centered specifically around Mewtwo and is not related to Mew.
It has been many years since Mewtwo and Ash and his friends parted ways. Mewtwo has left Mount Quena in the care of Pokemon clones that now reside there and has never returned. But this does not come from trust in his friends... it comes from uncertainty of himself. Haunted by nightmares and visions of memories that are not his own, Mewtwo sets out to piece together his broken past, to solve the mystery of Team Rocket's 'Project Mew'.
Five years have passed and Mewtwo has all but given up hope... but then he finds something. He finds a clue that leads him to an abandoned Team Rocket base on a island that, by all records, does not exist. Here he discovers a shocking revelation and learns that this secret is far deeper than he could have possibly imagined: he is not the first of his kind... and he is not the last.
Mewtwo was a being driven by hatred and a thirst for vengeance, because that was all he ever knew. But there was still humanity left in him, a part of his brain that made him think like a human. He finally saw the error of his ways and hoped to somehow fix the mess he had created. When the shadow memories began coming to him more frequently after the events of Mewtwo Returns, he realized that even with Giovanni dealt with, Project Mew was still a threat. It had to be destroyed completely, without a trace that others might find. This in mind, he had to find the source, where it all began, which led him to Rantar Island, following a clue found in the records on New Island. It was a small clue, a vague reference to where the DNA sample was discovered, but it was all he had.
